Default Cub Carb.

Here is $30.00 worth of parts, (Genuine I H ), and the gasket is made from the same BC material that they were made from before this crappy gas was invented!----I dont think the gasket will hold, but guess I will put it in and see if if it lasts for an hour!----I just took the remains of an exact thing off because the gas destroyed it and screwed up the carb!---the carb bowl is behind the filter, so the chunks fall right into the bowl and get into the load jet stopping the tractor dead in its tracks.
This is the cork looking gasket, looks to have black material mixed in the stuff! I cleaned loose chunks off the edges before I installed it but thats not going to help any!

These 3 parts cost $30.00 from IH!---what a rip-off!---probably cost them 30 cents to make them!

thanks; sonny

After putting the new parts in the carb,---it still drips just like it did before!!!!----guess I will just put a shut-off valve between the carb and the filter and forget about the needle valve ever holding the flow after the motor is shut off.---Its fine for about a half hour then it starts dripping! thanks; sonny

That's "rubberized" cork. Nope, doesn't hold up well to gas these days. Kinda tedious, but I cut most of my own gaskets. I keep 3 different grades/thicknesses sheet material. Gaskets are so ridiculously priced anymore.
Picked up a set of hollow punches for gasket making the other day. Up to now I just laid the material on object, then used a centerpunch to roll out the hole. These punches make good clean holes.
Where's the gas leaking from...bowl/housing gasket? Did you check that float good?

New needle and seat leaking just like the old one. After half hour gas starts dripping on the ground. Will drain whatever you got in the tank in short order. Comes from inside the carb. Pieces of the old bowl gasket were dropping inside the bowl and plugging the load jet. This one has already dropped pieces in there, and I don't even have the gas tank on yet. Next time carb comes apart to clean I am using aviation permetx and no gasket. Done it before and it works so will do it with this one as well. I am tired of screwing with this crap. Thanks; Sonnny

Dont laugh at this but the best hollow punches for the money are at Harbor Freight, around 6 bucks and You get about every size up to around 1/2 inch or so.

Sonny, I feel your pain on the carb dripping gas problem. I rebuilt the leaking carb on my Farmall B project tractor and it still leaked after sitting about 15 minutes or so. After a couple of times of taking the carb apart I found a hairline crack in the upper casting alongside where the needle valve seat screws in. I figure that the crack must be letting gas bypass the needle valve and after a short while overfills the bowl and starts to leak. The tractor runs great with this carb so for now I just shut off the gas at the sediment bowl.

Ditto what another poster said.. i try to make alot of my own gaskets, and keep several types of gasket paper on hand. I had an old pancake compressor that gave out a year ago.. was gonna ditch it.. but decided to take it apart.. all the gaskets were melted.. were a ubbery looking stuff... rebuild from manufacturer costs almost as much as the machine ( ok. half as much 40$ vs 89$ ).. I made my own after cleaning all the old melted one up.

unit works great.. i use it to fill tires and such, and save the larger upright compressor for painting and air tools... etc.

by any chance is the new needle and seat a viton tipped job? if so, seat it and smack it into the seat good to set a wear ring.. they usually stop dripping after that. if an old brass needle seat combo. I have carefully polised them with a toothpick and lapping compound.

good luck

I have 6 hollow punches, and they either came from HF, or HDC, and they dont have a straight blade cutter with them, so its hard for my stiff fingers to try making these really small gaskets!

Frank's gonna git me in trouble postin' them thar links!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL!---Yea, Urbana is only 40 miles or so from here!!!! thanks:sonny
