Default Ford Rim Problem!

Didnt get pics. yet, got dark, but does anybody know WHY is there a band of steel on the inside of the Jub. rim where the tire bead has to slide up over?---Is this factory or some add-on?---Looks factory, and the most ignorant idea on the planet since the tire wont stretch that much to go over the thing!---Took me 4 hours just to break the outter bead and about a half hour to do the other side!
Have to try to fix the leaky valve stem in the tube and weld a BIG patch where the valve stem is supposed to go thru the rim!

I have to fix a few things on it before I offer it for sale,---I have seen enough of Ford that I dont want them!---I need working tractors,---prefferable red but green or orange will do(AC orange)!
I would even trade for comperable value other tractor,---I know LOTS of people think Fords are THE tractor,--- but---well we will leave it at that!
Also can the big cotter key in the shifter be driven out easily or do I need to take the top off and lay it on solid surface? ---Any ideas? thanks; sonny

Oh My Lord Sonny, You could put a door on that hole to go in an check the air pressure

That extra piece of metal is so the extreme torque of the flat head engine and twisting at the end of the plow furrow keeps the tires in place

One a more serious note, some of those innovations wern't worth a hoot
they was just sales gimmicks

I am going to stick with IH tractors for utilitys, Never cared for them until I actually owned one, then I was sold forever. I would not mind a modern Ford like a 3000 - 5000 series But You can keep the stuff prior to those fore mentioned if I had to run one, I like power steering,
live power, hydraulic brakes, remote outlets. dont get Me wrong, I love My boat anchor antiques as well as the next Guy, I Just want a modern tractor that WORKS when I am doing something that has income tied to it

The guy that put our house siding on the South side took the rim with him!---He has a buddy that manages a BIG machine/welding shop in town and buddy told him to bring it in and they would slap a patch over the hole for me!--No charge,--No problem!---so right now the rim is in town!(hope it dont get lost in the shuffle!) thanks; sonny

The rim is back!!! looks super!---they even smoothed the weld down a bit for me!---all I gotta do is re-drill a stem hole when I find out what the tube will have for stem diameter! thanks; sonny

Here are a couple pics of the patch.
This is on the backside of the wheel!---not half bad for a freebie job!

this is the inside and I can smooth a little body filler over it to keep water away from the patch!

He even ran a grinder over the welds so that the tube wouldnt get rubbed, ---think I might add a little body filler around the outer edge and feather it down to help make a flatter surface, or just cut a big chunk out of an old tube and run the stem thru it to hold liner in place!
The other inner band has to be ground down a lot so the old tire will slide up onto the bead again!---NOT gonna be a fun job!
Still have to see about getting a stem,BUT they dont think you can buy just a stem anymore, and if that is the case, then the tractor will be sitting for a long time!----new tubes are expensive! thanks; sonny
